The Human Resources Intern will provide administrative and operational support to the Human Resources department, assisting with a variety of tasks related to recruitment, employee relations, and HR administration. 

To qualify for this position, you must be currently pursuing post-secondary education in an HR related field.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of HR legislation practices, policies and procedures. They will have strong communication, organizational, research, and data entry skills. The ideal candidate will also have the ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Compensation includes an hourly rate of $21.28 (2024 rate) plus 4% vacation pay, based on 37.5 hours weekly. The successful candidate is also entitled to enroll in the Ontario Municipal Employee Retirement System (OMERS) pension plan.

Position Objective

This position provides administrative and operational support to the Human Resources department, assisting with a variety of tasks related to recruitment, employee relations, and HR administration. 

 

Duties & Responsibilities

1.     Assist in the recruitment process including:

a.     Creating internal job postings

b.     Creating external job ads

c.     Post job ads via recruitment program (vidcruiter)

d.     Screening resumes

e.     Scheduling interviews

f.       Participating in interviews

g.     Conducting references checks

h.     Drafting offers

2.     Maintain accurate and confidential employee records, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.

3.     Update employee information in HR systems. 

4.     Assist with the implementation of HR policies and procedures. 

5.     Prepare and distribute HR-related communications.

6.     Coordinate employee recognition programs and events. 

7.     Assist with HR projects and initiatives as needed

8.     Assist with preparation of Joint Job Evaluation Committee documents and correspondence

9.     Participate in and attend Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion coalition meetings

 

Education & Experience

Currently pursuing post-secondary education in an HR related field.

 

Knowledge

·       Applied knowledge of MS Office Suite, social media platforms and computer applications

·       Knowledge of HR legislation practices, policies and procedures

·       Knowledge of employment laws and regulations is a plus is an asset.
