The Licensing Administrator will assist the department with clerical, administrative and customer service support to the Short-Term Rental/Business Licencing programs, including reviewing, processing and issuing Licences, responding Licencing inquiries and communicating program details to internal and external stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have Post-Secondary Diploma in Office Administration or related field with the ability to demonstrate an elevated level of office administration experience. They will have applied knowledge of policy administration and licencing legislation; also, they will have the ability to understand, interpret and apply applicable statutes, regulations and by-laws. The ideal candidate will work cooperatively with the public, stakeholders, co-workers and external agencies in a courteous and professional manner.

 

This union position offers an hourly rate of $27.90 plus 4% vacation pay, based on 37.5 hours weekly. The successful candidate is also entitled to enroll in the Ontario Municipal Employee Retirement System (OMERS) pension plan.

Division:                 Economic Development & Tourism Services

Reports to:            Manager of Economic Development and Tourism Services

Position Objective

Assist the department with clerical, administrative and customer service support to the Short-Term Rental/Business Licencing programs, including reviewing, processing and issuing Licences, responding Licencing inquiries and communicating program details to internal and external stakeholders.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

1.     Receiving and processing new and renewal short-term rental and business licencing applications, circulating for review and approval to/from internal departments and external agencies, consolidating approvals/comments, resolving outstanding issues and issuing licences. 

2.     Receiving and answering inquiries from the public, staff, short-term rental owners/operators, business owners, Members of Council, external agencies and others regarding a broad range of Licencing matters.

3.     Overseeing the maintenance and management of Licencing webpages and Let’s Talk Fort Erie.

4.     Coordinating annual fire and building inspections with appropriate departments. 

5.     Maintaining and tracking the short-term rental demerit point system. 

6.     Assists in performing clerical duties including preparing letters and internal and external correspondence related to short-term rental and business licencing. 

7.     Maintaining current knowledge of new/amended legislation, regulations, by-laws and standards and recommend and/or take appropriate action.

8.     Assist with maintaining filing systems in the department according to records management policies. 

9.     Other duties as assigned. 

 

Education & Experience

·       Post-Secondary Diploma in Office Administration or related field

·       Demonstrated elevated level office administration experience

·       Valid Ontario drivers’ license with a driving record acceptable to the Corporation

 

Knowledge

·       Applied knowledge of policy administration and interpretation

·       Applied knowledge of licencing legislation and policies

·       General knowledge of customer service

·       General knowledge of routine office procedures, practices and equipment

 

Skills & Ability

·       Ability to complete repetitive work

·       Ability to understand, interpret and apply applicable statutes, regulations and by-laws

·       Work cooperatively with the public/stakeholders/co-workers/external agencies in a courteous/professional manner

Position History

This temporary position was created in October 2024 to support program changes to the Short-Term Rental Licencing Program through By-Law No.102-2024 in order to facilitate the administration components of the program, including the lifting of the licence limit.
