2026 Summer Students 

(Approx. April 15, 2026 - October 15, 2026)

The Corporation is now accepting applications for summer student employment opportunities in 2026.  Students can work from April 15, 2026 to October 15, 2026; however, each position has a different duration. Schedules may include weekends and holidays and successful candidates are expected to be available for the entire summer season.

 

The hourly student rate is $20.62 plus 4% vacation pay. The successful candidate is also entitled to enroll in the Ontario Municipal Employee Retirement System (OMERS) pension plan.

 

To be eligible for student employment, you must be attending school, college, or university. A student is limited to six periods of summer employment. The assessment and selection of candidates includes a random element with the exception of returning students who have preference over new applicants. Interviews will be conducted accordingly.

 

A returning student who has worked for the Town in the past must apply through the Town’s website at www.forterie.ca. When filling out the questions page in the application process, ensure you select the option “Yes” to the question “Are you a returning summer student employee who has worked for the Town of Fort Erie before?”.

 

The Town of Fort Erie hires for the following positions: 

 

Beaches (Approximately Eight (8) Positions):

 

Reporting to Crystal Beach’s Bay Beach, Beach students will be tasked with delivering friendly and efficient customer service to beach visitors; assisting with the maintenance, cleaning, and restocking of beach facilities; performing landscaping and site clean-up as required; and supporting the overall operation and upkeep of the beach and its associated facilities.

 

Engineering Administration (Approximately One (1) position):

 

In an office environment you will perform office administrative tasks including, but not limited to, customer service, note taking, records management (filing, labeling, etc.), researching, word processing and data entry.

 

Fire and Emergency (Approximately One (1) position):

 

Reporting to the Fire Station 2 (Central Fire Station) the Fire and Emergency Student’s regular tasks will include administrative support and customer service, data entry, deliveries, cleaning (buildings and sites), and a variety of other day to day task.

 

Museum (Approximately Four (4) positions):

 

Museum Students will work at different sites managed by the Museums and Culture Division and other locations across Fort Erie that may include the Historical Museum, Railway Museum, Battle of Ridgeway National Historic Site, heritage parks and Crystal Beach business area or Bay Beach.  Work schedule includes weekends and holidays, and regular tasks may include customer service, visitor experience, program delivery, gift shop retail, assisting with cataloguing or exhibits and data entry.

 

Parks, Cemeteries and Horticulture (Approximately Fifteen (15) Positions):

 

If you have a green thumb and a knack for nurturing nature, consider joining our Green Spaces team this summer, and help beautify our community while gaining invaluable hands-on experience! As a summer student, you will be assigned to one of the following departments: Horticulture, Sports Parks, or Cemetery Operations where you will use equipment, power tools and hand tools to support the operations and maintenances of the Town.

 

Water/Wastewater and Stormwater Services (Approximately Two (2) positions):

 

Water/Wastewater and Stormwater Services Students will perform physical labour, paint fire hydrants and complete data entry work using equipment, power tools, hand tools, and field locates to support the operation and maintenance of Town infrastructure.
