The Engineering Intern will be team-oriented with strong problem solving and analytical skills. They will be familiar with software used in an engineering environment. They will also assist Town staff with sidewalk inspections, work within the GIS database, and conduct surveys. The Engineering Intern may additionally support Project Managers by participating in field assessments, completing cost estimates and performing inspections related to capital projects.
Working in a safety focused environment with exacting Health and Safety standards, the Engineering Intern will have an opportunity to learn and understand the issues and solutions related to Municipal Engineering.
Currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution studying Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or other complimentary field, the successful candidate is expected to be available for the entire summer season (approx.16 weeks). The hourly rate of pay is $21.81 (2025 Rate), plus 4% vacation pay, based on 37.5 hours weekly. The successful candidate is also entitled to enroll in the Ontario Municipal Employee Retirement System (OMERS) pension plan.

Department: Infrastructure Services
Division: Engineering
Reports to: Manager of Engineering
Position Objective
To provide support to the Engineering division staff in the Infrastructure Services Department.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Work in a safety-focused environment while adhering to strict Health and Safety standards, gaining exposure to the issues and solutions related to Municipal Engineering.
- Support engineering-related tasks and projects.
- Utilize and become familiar with software commonly used in an engineering environment.
- Assist Town staff with sidewalk inspections, GIS database updates, and surveying activities.
- Support Project Managers and Supervisors of Construction Projects, by participating in field assessments and site visits related to municipal infrastructure and capital projects.
- Assist with the preparation of cost estimates and perform inspections associated with capital projects as required.
Education & Experience
- OSSD or equivalent.
· Valid drivers’ license with driving record acceptable to The Corporation.
· Currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution studying Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or other complimentary field.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of Health and Safety standards and best practices within a municipal engineering environment.
- Knowledge of municipal engineering principles, practices, and common infrastructure issues.
- Knowledge of problem-solving and analytical approaches used in engineering-related work.
- Knowledge of software applications commonly used in an engineering and municipal environment.
- Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and maintaining GIS databases.
- Knowledge of inspection processes related to sidewalks and municipal infrastructure.
- Knowledge of basic surveying principles, methods, and equipment.
- Knowledge of field assessment procedures and site visit protocols for municipal projects.
- Knowledge of capital project processes, including inspections and documentation.
- Knowledge of basic cost estimating practices related to municipal engineering projects.

· Operate a gas powered Utility Transportation Vehicle when required.
